The Check In Project - Mission
The Check in Project
Mission and Goal:
The goal and mission of The Check in Project is to prevent anyone from feeling alone and not having support when they are dealing with mental health issues or any other struggle that our current society throws at us. The idea is to create a web of abundant support that will hopefully catch anyone who is falling and falling through the cracks. So many people in this world struggle. Whether it is with mental health, financial issues or any other difficulties living life in our current society throws at us. We can all feel so alone when we are in the depths of our struggles. In so many cases those who are fighting through struggles only have others who are also going through struggles to lean on because often those others are the ones who can relate and understand. So we often have struggling and sometimes broken people leaning on each other - other struggling and sometimes broken people - which only adds more weight to the struggle.
This project aims to solve that problem. It is calling on all people to be in contact and aware of the struggling and it's offering a concrete method of doing so that aims to be incredibly redundant by casting as wide a net as possible. We will achieve this by one of the greatest tools we have - social media.
The plan:
We all regularly update our status as it relates to struggle vs the ability to help others who may be struggling. The plan calls on you to carve out a portion of your time each week to either cast a net to help catch someone who may be falling or to cast a line to hook and reel in any needed support if you are struggling and in need of support. Wise people will always tell you that if you need help and support you need to ask and if you have the ability to help others it will in turn help you.
The Execution:
-Carve out a piece of your time each week to participate in this project, effort and movement.
- With that time, post one of the status templates that indicates where you are as far as struggle vs the ability to help someone who is struggling.
- Respond to the best of your ability no matter which end of the spectrum you fall on and together - with whoever you end up on the line with - talk through, work through any struggles that are being had to the best of your abilities.
- Label your status update posts with "The Check in Project" - either at the start of the post or at the end of the post - so that others can learn about the project and hopefully join in. Link this blog post to inform those who see your posts can learn about the project and know and understand what it is all about.
Status Templates:
These statuses cover a spectrum of struggle vs the ability to help others with struggles and will aid in connecting those in need to those who may be able to help. Helping is also sometimes helping someone in need connecting with someone else who is better suited to help.
Status Template 1:
“I am good. I am well. I am solid. I have some time, energy and resources to help someone out there who is in need. If you need me reach out. I'll be checking for responses.
Status Template 2:
“I am fine. I am doing ok. But I don't have the time, energy and resources to give or spare at the moment. I need what I have for me currently.”
Status Template 3:
“I am struggling. I need support. I need to talk. I need someone to listen. I need some help.”
Status Template 4:
“SOS. 911. Hit me up. I need serious help ASAP.”
These four status templates will regularly allow us to have a clear idea of who is in need and who may be able to help those in need and - if enough of us participate - it will cast a very broad, and very redundant web of support. It could be a next level system of support for anyone who is experiencing any sort of struggle in their lives. It could save lives. It could very well save a lot of lives and ease so much pain and struggle.
***Important Notes***
An individual is only capable of some much. If you post Status 1 and you get a response that gets you involved in helping someone - maybe post a follow up post letting your social media following know that you are occupied and if others reach out let them know you are occupied and do your best to direct them to someone else who may have the time, energy and bandwidth.
Also - keep things private that need to stay private. Post publicly to give updates but communicate privately about private matters unless both parties involved discuss and agree that public discussion of particular situations would be beneficial for raising awareness and that both parties feel comfortable with that. Use discretion.
Summary:
The Check in Project. Regular checking in on each other's wellness. Regular and systematic checking in on family and friends. It's impossible to talk to everyone we care about as often as we'd probably like to. This system uses a method of basically social media fishing with status updates that are either metaphorical nets or lines. There are many out there that already do versions of this in their own way. This is just more systematic and regular. Each of us using a little of our time to update our wellness spectrum so those we care about and those who care about us are aware and with numbers and regularity we could together quite possibly sure up the cracks or in some cases massive canyons so many in our society fall through.
Hope you really like and see the potential in this and truly hope as many people as possible participate. We might very well learn so much more about the people in our lives we care about and vice versa. If you are into this idea please start as soon as you are able and please share the idea with others.
Be well… Let's all be more well… Let's all help each other as much as we are able… That includes asking for help as is needed…
Let's be well… Let's do everything we can to help each other be well... Bless…
