Hello and welcome to this installment of Shots at Distillation by D-Licious Media. This is the first installment of a Shots at Distillation sub series called “To the Left.” The sub series will cover ideas and strategies for the future success of the Left and leftist goals. It will cover ideas like leftist patriotism, leftist libertarianism, the lefts relationship with Christianity, the Lefts relationship with the right, as well as ideas and strategies for the left to make some real progress forward. For this first installment of the subseries I'm going to focus on one of our founding fathers that I think the left should, talk about, elevate, and celebrate as its ideal founding father. That founding father is Thomas Paine. 


This week is the first annual Common Sense and Agrarian Justice Week. It's one of several D-Licious Media Holidays and Social Media Events designed to use social media to - with enough support and participation - spark a paradigm shift in our politics, culture and society. From February 28th through March 6th - D-Licious Media is calling on you to brush up on your Thomas Paine - especially his work Agrarian Justice - and share info about him all over Social media.


Throughout this subseries - Shots at Distillation -  To the Left - I will be covering ideas like leftist patriotism and leftist libertarianism and I believe Thomas Paine is the founding father we can celebrate and elevate as the Left's ideal founding father and the one who truly embodies those words. He was ahead of his time on freedom and liberty for all. He was anti-slavery. He was pro equality for women and his work - Agrarian Justice basically laid out an idea for a Universal Basic Income(UBI) that was ahead of its time and an idea that would get us much closer to our founding principles that unfortunately were not fully realized at our founding or throughout the history of The United States. The battle to fully realize our founding principles such as all are created equal, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we the people, a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty has yet to become fully realized in a truly complete way. It has inched forward and backslided in an endless ebb and flow throughout our history. 


Thomas Paine's writing - Common Sense - was a big piece and spark that motivated and inspired the American revolution. The founding principles are amazing ideas and ideals but Thomas Paine saw and expressed the reality that the ideals of the founding were in so many ways hypocritical while there was slavery, while women weren't fully included in all that was promised in those principles, and of course while there was class inequality of any kind. It's of course been a battle throughout American history to get closer and closer to those ideals and to actually include all men and women. Paine helped inspire the revolution but unfortunately fell short of having his complete vision being realized even though so many of our founding principles spelled it out. 


The idea for a UBI in Agrarian Justice is definitely a concept we should highlight, and celebrate. We should elevate it and amplify it. We should talk about it. A UBI would be a huge step towards realizing so many of our founding principles. It would be a huge step towards all being created equal, life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, we the people, a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to all. In our society some are born with inherited resources. So many more are not. A UBI would be a step towards the whole we are all created equal idea. If some are born with resources and so many others are born without, we are in no way created equal. This is an idea we should elevate and amplify. We will get deeper into this in future installments but the idea of a UBI laid out in Agrarian Justice is a libertarian idea. A leftist libertarianism idea. It is patriotic. It is libertarian. It provides all citizens more liberty and freedom and liberty is the first part of the word libertarian. Is it not?


So please help celebrate the first annual Common Sense and Agrarian Justice Week. Brush up on your Thomas Paine and share his ideas and his work. Let's celebrate and lift him up as the ideal founding father and a founding father with leftist ideas and ideals. Let's lift up the ideals that this country is supposed to be about. Let's spark a paradigm shift and a new path forward from this incredibly difficult time we are in by celebrating and amplifying the founding father that sparked and planted the seeds of a paradigm shift centuries ago. It's common sense. Let's finally realize the fullness of our founding words and ideas. 

We the people. We. The. People.
